The State of Minnesota has authorized special license plates to be issued to eligible veterans. Free license plates are available to veteran residents who have been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
License plates are available upon payment of the regular registration tax and an administrative handling and processing fee, for veterans of the following periods.
World War I
World War II
Pearl Harbor Survivors
Former Prisoners of War and Combat Wounded veterans
These special license plates are available through any motor vehicle registration outlet. The Commissioner of Veterans Affairs is required to certify only the former Prisoner of War applications. Other license plates require only the proof of eligibility, normally available on a veteran's discharge record.
