The UCC system is used to perfect a lien on personal property. Information is provided on these records to the lending community for the purpose of determining loan agreements.
UCCs Are No Longer Filed in Clay County
The Clay County Recorder's Office is no longer a satellite office for the Minnesota Secretary of State. Therefore, the Clay County Recorder's Office no longer files or searches UCCs. As of 12-01-2014 all UCC documents need to be filed online with the MN Secretary of State. However, we continue to record UCCs attached to real estate, often know as Fixture Finance Statement Mortgages. We also continue to record tax liens and provide County tax lien searches.
