[ARCHIVED] New Covid-19 Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Procedure Changes

Motorvehicle

In response to the social distancing recommendations from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Executive Order of Governor Walz and recommendations of President Trump, the department of motor vehicle (DMV) will be implementing new procedure changes effective March 18th, 2020  for the well-being and limiting exposure to our employees and the general public.

Only citizens with a tab renewal, driver’s license or existing real ID (with all necessary documents) that is set to expire within 30 days will be served.

Motor vehicle’s new procedure will limit access of citizens to the DMV lobby.

The procedure will be as follows;

  • Citizens will check in with DMV staff at the exterior entrance. The staff member will confirm the citizen is there for an acceptable reason and has proper documentation.
  • If an employee station is open, the citizen will be let into the DMV.
  • If all stations are full, the citizens name, phone number or license plate number will be written down by the DMV staff.
  • Citizens will be encouraged to wait in their vehicles and to not congregate by the building.  Citizens will be notified when a station becomes available.

This procedure will be in place until further notice. We will continue to look for to streamline the process and notify the public of any changes through this website.
