Motorvehicle

Moorhead, MN – Governor Walz announced on May 13th, 2020 that the Stay at Home Order will not be extended past May 17th @11:59pm.  On May 12th, the Clay County Board of Commissioners, through consultation with Public Health and Emergency Management, approved a Safely Returning to Work Policy

The policy is in response to the social distancing recommendations from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and recommendations of President Trump. The department of motor vehicle (DMV) will be open for business effective May 20th, 2020 @ 8am.  Limiting exposure to our employees and the general public continues to be a focus of the DMV procedures.

Motor vehicle’s procedure will limit access of citizens to the DMV lobby.

The procedure will be as follows:

  1. Citizens will check in with DMV staff at the exterior entrance. The staff member will confirm the citizen is there for an acceptable reason and has proper documentation.
  2. If an employee station is open, the citizen will be let into the DMV.
  3. If all stations are full, the citizens name, phone number or license plate number will be written down by the DMV staff.
  4. Citizens will be encouraged to wait in their vehicles and to not congregate by the building.  Citizens will be notified when a station becomes available.

This procedure will be in place until further notice. We will continue to look for to streamline the process and notify the public of any changes through this website.

Only citizens with Title Transfers, driver’s license or ID card renewals expired or set to expire within 30 days (these citizens with all required documents may apply for a Real Or Enhanced Driver’s license or ID card), disability certificates, and letters to clear applications already applied for will be served.  A drop off box for tab renewals will continue to be available at the DMV entrance for your convenience Monday through Friday. This procedure will take place through at least May 29th and will be updated as needed to allow for the citizens with expired documents to be served.
