Adult Protection Services


Clay County Social Services, as an agent of the State of Minnesota, Department of Human Services, is authorized to complete an assessment of abuse, neglect and exploitation of a vulnerable adult. It is the policy of the State of Minnesota to provide safe environments and services for vulnerable adults and to provide protective services for those who have been maltreated.

How to Make a Vulnerable Adult Report:

Effective July 1, 2015, call the Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center (MAARC).

Adult Protection services include:

  • Collaborating with other agencies through the Coordinated Community Response (CCR) Team to address abuse in later life
  • Completing an assessment of possible self neglect
  • Completing an assessment of alleged maltreatment
  • Petitioning for guardianship or conservatorship, when appropriate, or referring to a Representative Payee
  • Providing referrals to case management or other services
  • Review reports of suspected maltreatment
