Accepted Materials

The following items are accepted at the Clay County Landfill:

• Garbage (no liquids or rechargeable batteries in garbage)
• Demolition Materials (no liquids or rechargeable batteries in demo) (click here for a guide on demo vs garbage)            
  • As of June 2025, the Clay Demolition Landfill is only accepting loads from large commercial companies.
    • All other loads can be taken to the RRC in Moorhead (must hand unload into a dumpster) or the Clay County landfill where a dump trailer can be utilized
  • No plastic bags; materials brought in plastic bags can be emptied into a roll-off and the bags placed in a garbage can on-site
  • No asbestos; must call the Clay County landfill to schedule a time to drop-off: (218) 299-5079
• Brush, Shrubs, Stumps (only accepted at the landfill, not at the RRC in Moorhead)
• Appliances
  • Fridges and Freezers must be cleaned out
• Furniture
• Mattresses
• Tires and Rims
• Electronics and Fluorescent Bulb Recycling
  • Free for residents of Clay County
  • There is a charge for business electronics/bulb recycling (Click here for more information).     
• Sorted Household Recyclables
• Books
• Holiday Lights (year-round)
• Metal
• Rechargeable Batteries
• Car Batteries
• Boat Wrap (Seasonally April-June)
