To become a Notary Public in Minnesota you must apply to the Minnesota Secretary of State. Contact them by phone at 651-296-2803 or toll free at 877-551-6767 and press option 3 for notary assistance.
Notary Commission Certificate
The Minnesota Secretary of State will issue a Notary Commission Certificate. This certificate must be registered with your resident Minnesota county, in person. The commission of a non-resident notary must be recorded in the Minnesota county stated on the notary commission.
When you register with the county, please bring:
Notary Commission certificate from The Minnesota Secretary of State.
Government issued picture ID with current address.
Changing Your Name
The same application can be used to change your name on your Notary Commission Certificate. The new certificate would need to be registered with the resident county in Minnesota. The $20 fee is required each time you file with the county.
